Custom Orders!

I just finished one of my first custom orders and man do I love it! It came out exactly how I and my customer was hoping it would. Is it a colour I would wear? Knit? Think of? No, no, and no! and that's what I love about it. That one custom order that requested I step outside my comfort zone has helped me step out of the box I sometimes put around myself accidently.

I'm hoping to soon have a gallery of all the custom colourways that i make so you can see what other people have ordered...

How do you make a custom order? just choose you base yarn, and when checking out leave a comment telling me what you'd like....

Do you like pukeko but wish the blue was purple instead? Tell me!

Do you have a favorite purse you would love to have yarn to match? Send me a pic!

You just want that yarn I haven't seemed to stock in ages? Go ahead and give me a prod by custom ordering it!

You can find all the custom dying information over at in the catalog and see past custom orders over at the custom colourway gallery

Let's Talk About Knots

Knots, the knitter's worst nightmare, are even worse for dyers. We try to avoid them at all costs but unfortunately there comes a time when you just can't avoid having one in your skein.
We all have different methods of compensating for knots, and here is what I do here at GSY:

  • if a skein has 1 knot in it, I add an extra 5 metres
  • if it has 2 knots, you get an extra 10 metres
  • any more than 2 knots and I discount the price of the skein and make sure you know why it's discounted!

I do my best to avoid having knots at all.

Yarn Ahoy!
Brooklynne

Something's coming, Something good.

Well things have been busy around here at GSY Headquarters... what's been happening well

20kg's of yarn arrived just waiting to be dyed.

I then went to work setting up may studio in our shed just the way I need it to be.

Today I started putting the dye pots on the stove and yarn started to dye

While other yarn hung up to dry.

Things are getting exciting around here... I have three different sock weight bases, a superwash merino, a superwash merino/bamboo blend, and a superwash merino/silk blend... I have some exciting ideas and plans. Hope you all will keep checking back for various updates, and sneak peaks at future colourways.

Welcome

Welcome To Brooklynne Michelle's new enterprise Grrrl Shaped Yarns. Grrrl Shaped Yarns has been born out of Brooklynne's search for the perfect hand dyed yarn in New Zealand. While she found many yarns she liked and even loved, more even that she bought, she still felt there was something missing and she hopes to find it and offer it all to you!

Grrrl Shaped Yarns will be opening it's doors in November of 2009.
